Facebook Sparked, a video speed dating app, is being tested as part of Facebook NPE team’s exploration of the future of online dating.
If you did not think Facebook was serious about helping you date, now you know.
Facebook dating was first introduced at F8 in May 2019. It later debuted that same year in the US before expanding to Europe at the end of last year.
Now the NPE team is testing a new app, Facebook Sparked, to see if video speed dating can get enough traction for an official rollout. Facebook confirmed the test and referred to the app as “an early experiment.” The app is free to use, and there will be no direct messages, public profiles, or swiping.
Before you get all excited and start questioning the need for yet another dating app, know that Facebook Sparked is all about kindness. It starts from the sign-up page where Sparked is referred to as “video dating with kind people.”
When signing up, potential users must describe what makes them a kind dater, and all answers are reviewed by human moderators before a new user can start using the app. People must also specify if they wish to be matched with men, women, or nonbinary people and if they are open to dating trans people.
Are you ready for this?
